Foleshill Heart for the Community Project

 

Our Foleshill Women's Heart for the Community Project was 

a HUGE success!

The project, in partnership with Coventry University, was funded by Heart Research UK to support and encouraged BME women in Foleshill to become ‘Heart Healthy’ through an 8 week course of healthy eating, exercise and education, as well as taking part in weekly Healthy Hearts workshops in Foleshill and Hillfields. 

 

The project supported over 120 women including 20 women directly in course plus an additional 120 women through our weekly Health & Wellbeing Coffee Mornings in Foleshill and Hillfields which has included healthy and simple cooking, easy martial arts, Bollywood dancing and much more. 

As part of the 8-week course, the women have been wearing pedometers to measure the distance they walk on a weekly basis. Between 20 women, they have walked a staggering 1317 miles, which is the distance from Coventry to Naples in Italy! This is a fantastic achievement and we congratulate the women in becoming heart healthy! 

The women were encouraged to bring their own recipes from home in order to make them heart healthy. We have altered the recipes to contain less salt, use healthier oils and cooking methods to ensure maximum taste!
